Most people these days spend a significant amount of time on the Internet each day, for a variety of different reasons. Staying in contact with friends via social media, playing online video games, obtaining daily news, and many other attractions keep users connected to the Internet during much of their free time. Now you can even connect your television to the web, and have all those attractions appear on your wide screen TV. Here's how to go about it.
Check inputs and outputs
Most newer TV's have HDMI input ports that allow for high definition video, so you'll need one open HDMI port to accommodate your incoming web signal. You will also have to find an HDMI output port on your computer so you can get the web signal from it to your television's input port. There are also other video types such as Component and S-Video, but today the most common type is HDMI.
Get an appropriate connecting cable
Purchase a connecting cable of the type which matches your computer's output port type and your television's input type, which in most cases will mean you need an HDMI cable connector. If you have mismatched port types on the two devices, you'll need to get some kind of adapter cable to accommodate the difference.
Connect the audio cable
If you used an HDMI cable between your TV and computer, you won't need to do this step, because the audio signal is carried along with the video signal. For any other type of connection, you'll need to purchase an audio cable. The kind of audio cable you buy will depend on the kind of jack available on your computer's sound card. Most newer sound cards have a digital optical jack, but you may also have a standard RCA jack. Once you have your cable, connect it from the sound card to your TV's input audio port.
Test your connection
Turn your TV on and use the remote to select the input source you just set up, whether Component, HDMI, or something else.
