Keep Those Electronics Cool: Protect Your Home Theater Equipment from Heat

If you've ever touched your smart TV, Blu-ray player, or home audio equipment, you know that they put out a lot of heat. While this is normal, too much heat is bad for any electronic device. Most of the components of your home theater system will work just fine while generating a nominal amount of heat, but you might have to take certain steps to make sure that they can be kept relatively cool. Here are some tips that will help.

Get Rid of Your Sealed Cabinet

Almost all good entertainment system cabinets have plenty of open space and vents to allow cool air to reach the electronics within. If you're storing your DVD player or stereo in a closed cabinet, get rid of it and get something that lets in some fresh air.

Don't Stack Electronics

If you don't have a good cabinet for your Blu-ray player, plasma TV, and your streaming media player, at least make an attempt to keep them away from each other. While you obviously cannot keep them too far apart, you shouldn't stack them on top of each other whenever you can help it. They will generate way too much heat when kept together, and that will shorten their lifespan.

Dust Them Off

Even if you regularly watch movies on your home theater system, the individual components will collect a large amount of dust. This can clog the vents that allow the heat to escape, eventually causing them to overheat and break down. Dust off all of your electronics near the vents, and take some canned air to the inside to clear out any dust that may have collected there. It only takes a few seconds of your time, but your home theater system will last a lot longer as a result.
