Wall mounts come in a variety of prices, materials and designs. When shopping for mounts, consider that higher prices don't always mean it's a better product. Sometimes you're paying more for the manufacturer's name.

Strength of the mount is very important. Mounts that are made from plastics may not be as sturdy or strong than those made from higher quality metal materials. Consider the weight of your TV when buying a mount. Many wall mounts packages list the TV brands that they are designed to support, which is helpful.

Wall Mount Designs

Flat Mount

The most basic of all wall mounts available on the market is the flat mount. Essentially, the hardware holds the TV in place about one inch from the wall. This doesn't have any angle viewing options, and it is a recommended option for plasma units that have wide horizontal and vertical viewing lines.

Swivel Mount

This type of mount allows adjustments from side-to-side, which is ideal for televisions that need to be viewed at a slight angle to get the best viewing conditions. It's ideal when angles need to be changed to see well from another position in the room.

Tilt Mount

The tilt mount allows the TV to be positioned at a higher location on a wall and tilted to counteract reflections from room lights or glare from a window.

It's a good idea to check your flat screen TV manual after purchasing to see if it lists wall-mounting recommendations for optimal strength and mounting options. It is also highly recommended that you mount the bolts into wall studs to provide a secure and stable mounting.
